Murphy Lake

Trailhead: Green Mountain
Distance: 11.2 mi
Elevation Change: 2,420' There is another route, but this is the one I took. Hike up the Green Mountain trail to the junction with the Tonahutu Creek Trail. Head north. The trail goes around Big Meadow then through the burn scar from 2013. After more than seven miles, the trail climbs to treeline. At about 11,400' elevation, leave the trail and countour southwest. Pass two unnamed ponds and continue across alternating talus and grassy fields to Murphy Lake.

Cub Lake

Trailhead: Cub Lake
Distance: 2.3 mi
Elevation Change: 540' The trail heads south at first then turns west, passing beside a series of beaver ponds. After this mostly flat section, the trail rises through an aspen grove before arriving at the eastern end of Cub Lake. This area was burned during the Fern Lake fire of 2012.

Lake Dunraven, 'Whiskey Lake', and 'Scotch Lake'

Trailhead: Dunraven (North Fork)

Lake Dunraven
Distance: 11.1 mi
Elevation Change: 3.360' From Lost Lake, use the trail on the south side of the lake, past the campsites, and climb to the bench that holds Husted. Cross the stream at the southern end of the wetlands. Use game trails to cross the willow and skirt the krummholz. Climb the wide gulley to the top of the ridge. Descend the gentle slope to the southern shore of Lake Dunraven.

'Whiskey Lake'
Distance: 11.5 mi
Elevation Change: 3,640'
From Lake Dunraven, I crossed the stream close to Dunraven and went up the tundra ramp up to Whiskey.

'Scotch Lake'
Distance: 11.7 mi
Elevation Change: 3,720'
I crossed the outlet to the east side of Whiskey and then south to a shallow tundra ramp up to Scotch Lake.

Spruce Lake (1 new item)

Trailhead: Fern Lake
Via: Fern Lake
Distance: 4.8 mi
Elevation Change: 1,510'
The spur trail to Spruce Lake is actually a hundred yards or so short of Fern Lake. This is a very pretty trail but can be difficult to follow at times, particularly a cairn marked section through a boulder field. The trail also passes through a few marshy spots with boardwalks.

Ptarmigan Tarn

Trailhead: Bear Lake
Via: Lake Helene
Distance: 3.6 mi
Elevation Change: 1,473' At Lake Helene, cross the outlet and follow the fairly well-defined trail along the west shore. As the trail rises it begins to fade and there are few cairns to mark the way. But route finding is not difficult, and there is little willow or krummholz to bar the way.
