The raw audio stream was played through the PC SPDIF output, and
from there to a minidisc recorder where the optical output was
passed onto a JB3. [The minidisc optical output is NOT subject
to ATRAC compression, the minidisc device is simply used as a
format converter]. The web stream is declared to be 1413kbs;
CD-quality (44.1k) would be 1411.2kbps. Perhaps an extra 1.8k
is added for data/song titles....?

Having set my Windows Media Player to buffer 60 seconds of music,
playback was interrupted every couple of minutes for re-buffering.
The gaps couldn't be repaired by simply eliminating the silence,
since an additional 56-or-so samples were missing at each point
where the stream was restarted. I therefore downloaded the stream
a seond time and used this to repair the gaps in Adobe Audition 1.5.
(The second stream had its gaps in different places). 15 gaps were
repaired in all.

Note: The Sony JE530 is a minidisc recorder, however
a pure digital output is available when using it as a
"passthrough" device. Therefore, despite the presence
of a minidisc device in this lineage there is no MD/
ATRAC compression.
