Notes/Review |
Reynolds takes us along on his journeys from England to Soviet Russia to Egypt. He seemed to buy the Soviet propaganda hook, line, and sinker, but that same feeling didn't come through in his subsequent book that covers his return to Russia, so he must have gotten over it. He describes the Soviet citizens as happy, healthy, well-fed, and enthusiastically in full support of Stalin. Even those who spent years in the gulags. The only doubts he shares is when he sees women prisoners working on a road.
The best part of the book, for me, was the description of his experiences in a battle near Sidi Omar. First he observed a tank battle then was subjected to aerial assault. |
