Colin Moulding had more than his usual share of songs on XTC's Skylarking, perhaps because of the clash of egos between Andy Partridge and producer Todd Rundgren, and among them was this lovely winner, an ode to relaxing (and more) with a loved one out in the summer sun. With a string section providing an enjoyably psychedelic-tinged edge, the song hits a steady, gentle groove (carried over from the preceding "Summer's Cauldron") from the start, acoustic guitar and calm, bongo-led percussion (or drum machines imitating same) leading the way. Heavily treated electric guitar adds a bit of bite here and there, but more one of texture than anything else, while Moulding's increasingly lusty lyrics pump up the drowsily hot temperature of the song without having to increase the volume. It's a slight tune in ways -- barely two and a a half minutes beyond an extended conclusion -- but definitely one of Moulding's most distinct efforts. -- Ned Raggett (allmusic.com)
