There is no doubt that Tom Petty & the Heartbreakers always enjoyed psychedelic music, but when this song hit the airwaves in the late '80s, it was a full-blown slice of the genre. A virtual masterpiece, the song, despite its ambitious nature, contains simple five chords. Stately and graceful, the melody flows from start to finish, and the graceful background gospel vocal lines intermingle nicely with Dave Stewart's evocative sitar lines. Near the end of the song, it is transformed into an orgy of wash-wah electric guitar, and the time of the rhythm doubles over Mike Campbell's psychedelic lead playing. -- Matthew Greenwald (allmusic.com)
