My first time seeing Kronos, much to my shame. The first piece blew my mind and then there was the rest of the show. Kronos put on a stunning and varied set with too many high points to mention and I was sitting close enough to get rosin on me. Wow. And then the Homayun Sakhi Trio
came on and proceeded to destroy the audience (crowd was about half white classicalish fans/half East Indian - Middle Eastern - which was a perfect mix) They played two long pieces with a stunning drum solo from Kosimov. He was playing 3 doyras at once while tossing them in the air and catching them!! And Sakhi played like lightning. Jeez. And then there was more, the Sakhi piece he wrote for Kronos. You have to listen to it, it is awesome with spontaneous applause in the middle. Then they played an encore. Just a Dylan tune arranged for Kronos by Philip Glass.

There is a cd by Homayun Sakhi in the Smithsonian Folkways/Aga Khan Music Initiative series and one by Kronos and Sakhi in the 10 cd series of music of Central Asia. Looks like an impressive set... I bought the Kronos one.
