----------------------------------------------
Reynolds wrote the story of Commander C. D. Smith in the first person. He has done this before; at first I wondered whether it was a fictional account. But, no, it's the true story of Smith - his capture by the Japanese, his prison time, and his escape.
It's told in a voice very much of the time it was written (1945) - very gung-ho, America and Americans are the greatest, American allies are great, our enemies are stupid and vicious and untrustworthy. But an entertaining story of courage and fortitude nonetheless. |
