Notes/Review |
Good or better hardcover with restored dust jacket in new Brodart jacket. Signed by previous owner, otherwise unmarked, bright and clean with reliable binding -spine has slight slant.
This is an entertaining little travelogue through Burma and Nepal in 1939. It is the story of the Denis expedition's attempt to be the first to make a documentary motion picture in Nepal. There is a lot here about some of the different people they meet and some quaint practices of those people. It's a documentary group, but I wouldn't call any of the members sociologists or anthropologists. The author reports what they see, but I wouldn't take his interpretations as anything scientific.
Davis is a keen observer and engaging author. It's an entertaining story, worth the read but probably shouldn't be taken as anything more than entertainment. |
