Notes/Review |
I will admit that I had no idea who Bakari Sellers is before reading this book. It was given to me by a friend. I'm not a follower of South Carolina politics, and I don't watch CNN.
Sellers is still a young man. There's a lot of life ahead of him, and I hope he continues to work toward making the world align more with his stated goals and values.
Because he's still young, these memoirs are a bit on the short side. He starts with an event that preceded his birth by quite some time, but nonetheless was part of his "origin story", to borrow a comic book term. His father, and his father's associates, provided him with many important connections.
He tells us of his run for office and how he landed at CNN, and we get some glimpses into his personal life, particularly the difficulties of his wife's delivery of twins and subsequent health issues.
Well-written and an easy read. But the meaning of the title isn't clear to me. |
